On October 5th, World Teacher’s Day, Ken surprised Krista Dugmore at Washington Elementary School, in Salt Lake City, with the Supplies for Success Award
Here is what Principal Julie Miller had to say about Krista:
“Krista Dugmore is a new member of the Washington Elementary School faculty this year. Washington Elementary is located in the heart of SLC and serves children from our neighborhood boundaries as well as The Road Home, a shelter for homeless families in SLC. She has a natural rapport with elementary-aged children and genuinely cares about every student. She has experience teaching a diverse student population including refugees, special education students, English Language Learners, and low-socioeconomic status students. Teaching is her passion and her #1 priority! This year Krista is teaching a classroom of kindergarten-age students; she is developing a positive and safe learning environment emphasizing building community and teamwork. We are very fortunate to have Krista on our faculty.
She previously worked for several years in Boise, ID. She packed up a trailer to haul school supplies and items she valued for use in her classroom down to SLC. She had only two weeks to set up her room as she was hired very late in the year. In a freak accident, her trailer caught on fire in the move to SLC from Boise. She lost everything but two items. Needless to say, it was devastating. She is a remarkable young teacher, and I would love for her to have the opportunity to replace some of the items she lost.”
