DRAPER, UT, March 7, 2013 – The School Supplies Gift Program, sponsored by Utah-based Christensen & Hymas, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Abbie Brown, a 3rd grade teacher at Quail Run Primary School, and Mrs. Pam Hansen, a 2nd grade teacher at Viewmont Elementary, are the next recipients of the Golden Apple Award.

Brown, Abbie

Mrs. Abbie Brown, is originally from Blackfoot, Idaho but she moved to Utah about five years ago to attend college at UVU, where she played golf on a full ride scholarship. In August of 2011 she married the love of her life and shortly after began teaching at Quail Run Primary School. Mrs. Brown is fairly new to teaching but has already begun making a huge difference in the lives of her students.  Mrs. Brown puts in a lot of work after school, sometimes putting in up to sixty hours per week, so that she can give her students the best learning environment possible. She loves her students and wants the absolute best for them.

In order to aid her students’ learning, Mrs. Brown often dips into her own pocket to buy supplies. Some of the things she plans to use her Golden Apple award money for include white-board markers, paper, glue sticks and highlighters to name a few.  We at Christensen & Hymas wish to thank her for a job well done and applaud her for her efforts and passionate approach to teaching.

Hansen, Pam

Mrs. Pam Hansen has been teaching Utah’s students for over thirty years now.  She has taught kindergarten, first and second grade. She is currently teaching 2nd grade at Viewmont Elementary School in Murray.  As a teacher she exemplifies what a strong, energetic, enthusiastic and positive influence a teacher can be in her student’s lives. Mrs. Hansen was nominated by her daughter who said that she “touches the lives of not only the students in her class but those in her community and in [their] family.”

Mrs. Hansen’s personal philosophy on teaching is that educators need to instill a love of learning in their students that will last throughout adulthood. She strives to make the classroom a safe place for her students; a place where the children can learn without being scared of making mistakes. A key focus in Mrs. Hansen’s teaching method is creativity, especially in writing. Every day she assigns a fun creative writing assignment which helps her students learn to love both writing and reading. Mrs. Hansen said that the writing activities help her students “realize that what they think they can write and what they write can be read and enjoyed.” Mrs. Hansen plans on using this award to purchase classroom materials that will further enhance these creative writing projects.

It is with great pleasure that we at Christensen & Hymas recognize Mrs. Hansen for her teaching excellence. She is truly making a great difference in the lives of Utah’s children.
