Utah Distracted Driving Resources

There are several online resources you can visit for issues and concerns, educational materials, as well as fact sheets on distracted driving. Understanding distracted driving and knowing how it can be avoided are the best preventative steps parents and responsible adults can undertake. Our Utah car accident lawyer provided a few websites with their resources on distracted driving:

National Safety Council

This website provides educational materials such as videos, fact sheets, posters, and research papers on distracted driving. There is a recorded website you can view and learn from. The videos feature common questions about distracted driving. The National Safety Council identifies itself as a nonprofit organization whose mission is to save lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes, and communities, on the road through leadership, research, education, and advocacy. NSC advances this mission by partnering with businesses, government agencies, elected officials, and the public to make an impact where the most preventable injuries and deaths occur in areas such as distracted driving, teen driving, and workplace safety, and beyond the workplace, particularly in and near homes.

United States Department of Labor-Occupation Safety and Health Administration

This website features a page on distracted driving. OSHA is encouraging all employers to ensure part of their company policy is a ban on distracted driving among their employees. Since a number of workers are spending more time on the road visiting clients and customers, making site visits, or delivering goods and services; a company policy must be in place restricting employees from using their cell phones while driving.  Offices must also stop making frequent calls to their workers who are on the road. The website also promotes the “Drive Safely Work Week” to be celebrated every October 4-8. Employers can be investigated if part of their work routine makes it necessary for employees to text while driving.

Distraction

This is a website maintained by the Department of Transportation (DOT). The secretary of DOT, Ray Lahood, describes distracted driving as an epidemic on America’s roadways. He stated DOT’s way of putting a stop to distracted driving is the creation of Distraction.gov to raise awareness and provide information to people who want to get the facts on the issue, get involved in their communities, and help make the roads safer for all Americans.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

NHTSA puts together various materials on road safety that includes distracted driving. The website also features updates and news related to distracted driving. NHTSA partners with various government agencies to combat distracted driving and links are provided for visitors to access other information they might need.

National Conference on State Legislature (NCSL)

NCSL describes itself as a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staff of the nation’s 50 states, its commonwealths and territories.  NCSL provides research, technical assistance, and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues.

AAA Foundation on Traffic Safety

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety was founded in 1947 AAA to conduct research to address growing highway safety issues. The organization’s mission is to identify traffic safety problems, foster research that seeks solutions, and disseminate information and educational materials. Christensen & Hymas also features articles and resources on its website, which aim to educate the public.
