Birth control is on many women’s minds. When choosing your level of control, you should rely heavily on recommendations from your physician. However, doing your own research on the different types of birth control options before you go in to see you doctor is the best idea. Some birth control options have different side effects and complications you should be aware of when doing your own research. Reading the information firsthand will give you the answers you need when deciding what birth control to use.
The Mirena IUD (Intra-Uterine Device) is a birth control option is meant to prevent pregnancy for up to five years. This long-term birth control is a great option for many women who are not planning on starting a family within the time frame mentioned. However, this birth control has been reported to have severe side effects that have caused many women pain and suffering that was not told to them prior to using the birth control.
The Mirena IUD differs from traditional day-to-day pills of birth control hormones. The Mirena IUD is inserted into the uterus, releasing progestin levonorgestrel, which protects against pregnancy by insuring the woman’s ovaries are not releasing eggs. The Mirena IUD is advertised as a great option for busy moms and that the Mirena could increase intimacy, romance, and emotional satisfaction. However, this has not been the case for many women using the product. Below are a few stories of women who have used the Mirena IUD and the side effects that they experienced.

Mirena IUD Stories
There are many stories of women who have had complications from the Mirena IUD. These women are seeking help from personal injury lawyers to get the compensation they need from the pain and suffering they have endured.
Woman #1:
“Feb. 1st 2010 I had Mirena inserted. My husband and I made the decision to do this after having 4 beautiful children. The insertion was very painful. From the moment it was inserted it was wrong for me. The cramping that was supposed to stop never did. I made daily phone calls to my OB/GYN about the cramping and heavy bleeding. I was told that my body has to regulate and that the bleeding will come and go for 6 months. . . The doctor on call said that it is not normal but it is not abnormal for Mirena. Time went on and I started to change physically, mentally, and emotionally. The following are the adverse reactions I was experiencing; cramping, heavy bleeding, nausea, vomiting, swollen eyes, hair loss, belly distention (I weigh 123 but my belly looked as if I were 5 mos pregnant), severe joint and muscle pain (esp. in back), crippling effect for 2 hrs in the a.m., skin discoloration, spitting as I spoke, not able to pronounce words (stutter), no sex drive (use to love sex), agitated very easy, very irritable (short-fused), memory loss, fatigue (but then at times hard to sleep), withdrawal, personality changed, headaches, eyes sensitive to light, dizziness, fainted and fell downstairs, bruising, limb weakness and numbness, heart palpitations, constipation (was unable to have a bowel movement without enema or laxative), vaginal discharge, breast tenderness, pregnancy symptoms (even the brown line from above my belly button down appeared), no appetite . . . I had the Mirena removed on April 22nd, 2010. The cramping stopped immediately. I feel about 30% better not even 24 hrs after the removal. I believe I will keep getting healthier and keep getting my life back.”
Woman #2:
“I too have had extreme weight gain, depression, and loss of libido since I had my Mirena inserted over 2 years ago. I finally put two and two together a few months ago when I needed antidepressants. I found hundreds of women on the net complaining of similar symptoms that they believed to be caused by Mirena. Last week I finally got the . . . thing removed, it may be psychological but I could feel that it was gone, I felt [an] instant relief. 48 hours later my sex drive returned and I felt that my depression was lifting. One week later my eczema vastly improved and I have already lost weight. I have not yet had a period yet and the only good thing about the Mirena was the very light and infrequent periods.”
