Christmas is here again, and it’s the most wonderful time of the year. Maybe it’s the abundance of hot cocoa and bad fruitcake. Maybe it’s the hay rides and carolers. Maybe it’s your favorite Christmas album on repeat. Or maybe it’s the lights. It’s probably the lights. Here are some of our suggestions for the best places to see Christmas lights this year:
Christensen & Hymas Building
Each year we develop and put on our very own Christmas light display here at Christensen & Hymas. Come see our display in Draper at 11693 S. 700 E. We promise lots of lights flashing in time to music if you tune in to 99.9 FM. Check out this video preview of what is in store. We are also hosting a food drive in partnership with the Utah Food Bank, so bring a few cans of food to drop off after enjoying the lights.
Salt Lake City Temple Square
You don’t have to be LDS to appreciate the Christmas display at Temple Square. This impressive setup is a tradition that dates back to 1965. So, do yourself a favor and go see the Square’s hundreds of thousands of lights and its beautiful nativity scene this holiday season. Admission is free and the display goes from Nov. 27th to Dec. 31st.
Hogle Zoo
The only thing better than your average Christmas lights is ZooLights. Make sure to stop by the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake this season to see your favorite furry friends as well as the spectacular light display. Don’t miss the 135-foot lighted tunnel or Santa Claus at the Macy’s Santa Station! Admission for children and seniors is $5, and $7 for adults. Children under two are free. The display goes from Dec. 3rd to Dec. 31st (not open Christmas Day).
Thanksgiving Point
Thanksgiving Point in Lehi is truly Holiday Central. Besides sporting a very festive holiday light display, they will also be hosting Santa and his reindeer for some special appearances throughout the season. But that’s not all! There are concerts, storytellers, ice-sculptors and much, much more! For pricing and a schedule of events, visit Thanksgiving Point’s website.
City Creek Mall
If you’re like us, you’ll enjoy getting some holiday shopping done while taking in the lights at City Creek Mall. Be sure to stop at Macy’s to see the spectacular window display and visit Santa, too! Admission is free.
Gateway Mall
Have you ever wanted to see a 50-foot Christmas tree? Well, want no more! Head down to the Gateway Mall and enjoy the choreographed light display and a giant tree. Bigger is better, right? Admission is free.
Winder Lane
The homes on Winder Lane in West Valley City are beautifully decorated for the holiday season. As a bonus, at the end of the lane you’ll find the Winder Farm Country Store, where you can warm up with hot chocolate, scones and other goodies. If you go on Thursdays from 6-8, there just might be a certain bearded man in a red suit! Admission is free.
Draper Park
Be sure to stop by Draper Park on Dec. 2nd for the tree lighting ceremony at 6 pm. The winter market will be open from 5-10 pm, and a certain someone named (you guessed it!) Santa will be there taking Christmas wishes from 6:30 to 8 pm. The park is located at 1300 E. 12500 N. in Draper. You won’t want to miss it!
