We are happy to present the first Golden Apple of the 2014-2015 school year to Brittney Garner. Brittney is currently beginning her third year at Freedom Elementary in Highland, and fifth year of teaching overall. According to her principal, Jim Melville (who is himself a winner of the National Distinguished Principal award) Brittney is unique because of her relentless creativity. “She is an amazingly creative teacher,” Melville says “She is always looking for ways to enhance her curriculum.” He also stated that she dresses in various characters for her class to bring her lessons to life.
Students are also fond of Mrs. Garner, partly because of her unusual classroom. Brittney received a box of donated paraphernalia associated with the Harry Potter franchise from Warner Bros themselves. She has house crests, wands, and floating candles all around her room. Her students are sorted into “houses” and she has even renamed some curriculums. Math has become “Arithmancy,” and literature? Muggle Studies.
Last but not least, everyone says the same thing about Brittney. She always has a smile on her face and never complains. She doesn’t rest with the status quo and always tries to make the best of her situation.
