March 20th is the International Day of Happiness! Positive attitudes can have a significant impact on many different aspects of life. One of the most frustrating daily activities many of us take part in is driving and commuting. Road rage can easily take over tense situations. Avoiding road rage can minimize accidents and promote safety on the road. And at Good Guys Injury Law, we think it’s very important to keep Utah roads safe. So, in keeping with the spirit of the International Day of Happiness, this post outlines some helpful ways to prevent road rage.

Avoiding Road Rage on the International Day of Happiness

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety surveyed drivers about the things that anger them most. Drivers identified the following behaviors as the most likely to cause road rage. Avoiding these dangerous driving habits will help keep your trip safe.

  • Cutting other drivers off
  • Driving too slow in the far left lane
  • Tailgating
  • Rude gestures

Responding to Aggressive Drivers

Even though you may avoid these bad driving habits, other drivers may not. Being able to calmly respond to aggressive drivers is very important. Below are some strategies on how to do this.

  • Don’t react with anger
  • Put as much distance as you can between yourself and the aggressive driver
  • Avoid eye contact
  • Don’t compete
  • Call the police if aggressive drivers are reckless or dangerous
