Looking for some great scenic drives near Salt Lake? Utah is one of the best places to enjoy the outdoors in the spring and summer. Driving to your different activities can be as enjoyable as the activities themselves, depending on the route you choose. Alpine Loop

  • This drive stretches 20 miles from American Fork Canyon to Provo Canyon. It winds through the Uinta National Forest and passes by Sundance Mountain Resort. There is a lot of beautiful scenery along the way, including trees, waterfalls, and natural springs.

Big Cottonwood Canyon

  • Just outside of Salt Lake, Big Cottonwood Canyon features all sorts of outdoor activities. It also makes for a beautiful drive. Take the road up to Brighton Ski Resort, and if you’d like, stop and enjoy one of the many great hiking, climbing, or biking options.

Little Cottonwood Canyon

  • Alta and Snowbird ski resorts are located in the mountains surrounding Little Cottonwood Canyon. The hour-long drive from Salt Lake to Alta is very scenic. For those who are looking to liven up their drive, the canyon offers great hiking and biking opportunities.

Nebo Loop

  • This scenic drive runs through the Uinta National Forest near Mt. Nebo. You can access the loop by entering the mouth of Payson Canyon. The drive features many natural attractions, such as the red-rock Devil’s Kitchen formation.

Provo Canyon

  • Driving alongside the Provo River, the sights in Provo Canyon include Bridal Veil Falls and the Deer Creek Reservoir. The drive starts at the mouth of Provo Canyon and ends in the Heber Valley. There are plenty of outdoor activities to choose from along the way.
