Bountiful Car Accident Police Report

At Christensen & Hymas, we regularly represent car accident victims in Bountiful and throughout the Davis and Weber Counties. Serious car accidents are unfortunately common on the busy roads and highways north of Salt Lake City. The physical, emotional, and financial consequences of these crashes can be devastating. Working with an attorney to build an injury case can be an extremely helpful step in the recovery process.

Car accident claims are some of the most common personal injury cases. In order to win a settlement, you need to have a strong case supported by evidence. The police report on your accident is one of the most useful resources available.

Car accident reports in the Bountiful area are required by law to “provide sufficient detail” about your crash. A properly written report will identify three general things:

  • Cause
    • Is one driver at fault, or multiple?
  • Conditions
    • Was the road unsafe for any reason? Was there bad weather?
  • Cars and People Involved
    • Was someone driving drunk or distracted? Were they driving an unsafe vehicle or not using their headlights?

These are just some of the questions involved in a car accident report. Your first priority should be contacting the proper authorities in Bountiful or Davis/Weber County and requesting a copy for your case.

How to Get Your Bountiful Car Accident Report

Car accident reports in Bountiful – and throughout Utah – are confidential and only available upon special request. In order to get your report, you must request it yourself or sign a form allowing your attorney to do it for you.

You can request a copy of your Utah car accident report by completing a “Government Records Request Form.” You may also search for your report in an online database before requesting it. Finding and reviewing your report with an attorney before requesting a copy is important, because it may not include all of the necessary facts. On top of that, reports cost money, and you don’t want to pay for something that won’t even help your case.

It is also possible to request your report directly from the Bountiful Police Department. Print and send a request form to the local office, or visit them in-person. This can sometimes be more efficient than requesting records at the state level, but will still cost you money.

You may be surprised or annoyed that you have to pay for your own car accident report, but Utah law allows state and city governments to charge for the service. Keep in mind that a longer report will be more expensive. At Christensen & Hymas, however, we will take care of any necessary fees while defending your case.
