Utah Pedestrian Accident Resources

Utah Pedestrian road signPedestrian accidents have become one of the major sources of concern in Utah. A pedestrian struck by a vehicle is at greater risk for injuries and death than other commuters who are using vehicles. The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that on average, a pedestrian is killed every two hours and injured every eight minutes in traffic crashes. In 2011 alone, 4432 pedestrian deaths were reported across the United States. It is of paramount importance that motorists and pedestrians educate themselves regarding pedestrian road safety. Our Utah pedestrian accident attorneys has some resources that can be accessed to gain valuable information on pedestrian accidents.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

The NHTSA webpage provides safe walking tips for pedestrians, research and statistics, curriculum and resources, program and activities, and other related resources involving pedestrians. NHTSA urges for the full cooperation of all stakeholders in improving the safety of pedestrians in most communities. NHTSA reminds people that “everyone is a pedestrian”, therefore the resources available in their website should be used to a maximum to improve quality of life and reduce fatalities and injuries due to pedestrian accidents.

Utah Department of Health VIPP

The Utah Department of Health VIPP webpage on Violence and Injury Prevention Program talks about pedestrian safety and provides good resources on the “Green Ribbon Month” which is an annual Utah pedestrian safety program that was launched in 1998 by the Davis County SAFE KIDS Coalition. The goal of Green Ribbon Month is to prevent children from being hit by motor vehicles in school zones and crosswalks. The page also provides safety tips, and risk factors associated with pedestrian accidents and other relevant information.

Heads Up

The Heads Up website provides a list of pedestrian “myths” and safety tips for motorists and pedestrians.

Zero Fatalities

The Zero Fatalities website offers information on programs and initiatives that are focused on reducing crash fatalities and accidents. This includes articles on distracted driving, impaired driving, drowsy driving, buckling up and others. The website also has videos on crash victims’ families and their testimonies on how reckless and negligent driving behavior has changed their lives.

National Pedestrian Crash Report

This 2008 report, published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, contains a comprehensive compilation of important information regarding pedestrian accidents. This report can be helpful in knowing the trends and issues of pedestrian accidents.
